Wilderness First Responder (WFR)

SOLO's Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is the industry standard for wilderness medical training for guides, trip leaders, and outdoor professionals with responsibilities in the field. The 72-hour program covers standardized patient assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies, soft tissue injuries, and non-traumatic issues like asthma and diabetes. Expanding and building on WFA topics, the WFR course delves deeper into each subject, providing a thorough understanding of underlying mechanisms and treatment implications.

Utilizing a combination of classroom discussions and real-world hands-on scenarios, the course assumes students will be serving in leadership roles, requiring effective patient care, scene/group management, and evacuation planning, often with limited resources. Advanced scenarios offer extensive practice, fostering learning consolidation and muscle memory. As a pioneer in wilderness medicine education since 1976, SOLO has continuously refined the WFR curriculum for over 35 years. Successful completion awards students a SOLO WFR card, valid for three years.
